Retrofitting Metering to an Existing Distribution Board
Challenge:
Our client had been asked to install metering onto on to the incomer of an existing three phase distribution board. They were tight for space and could not fit a secondary enclosure either side of the board, so they requested an extension box that could be fitted below. The readings were to be used to bill the consumer of power supplied by the DB, so they requested the meter be of the appropriate regulatory standard.
Solution:
S P Wales sourced an extension box to match the existing DB, allowing it to fit neatly below. We mounted a 3 in 1 CT onto DIN rail inside, which the cable feeding the DB would need to be fed through, and fitted a panel mounted meter onto the front of the extensions box. The Eastron X96 meter that was supplied is MID approved, making it suitable for billing applications. Fuses for the meters power supply and voltage references were also fitted onto the DIN rail as well as a neutral and earth terminal, and 1m of cable was included to tap off from a spare way in the DB.
