Measuring 4 x 3-Phase Supplies with Remote Monitoring
Challenge
Our client was looking to monitor 4 three phase supplies on a farm. The property owner wanted to reduce their consumption to save costs, but needed to identify which areas of the farm were consuming more than others and why. The end user also requested remote access to the readings as well as data logging, allowing them to not only view which circuits were consuming what, but also when. As this was an existing installation, the installer was looking for a retrofit solution to avoid disconnecting and re-routing existing cables and to avoid any downtime in supply.
Solution
We supplied a pre-wired enclosure complete with 4 three phase meters for each of the supplies on site. They were supplied with sets of 3 split core CT's, meaning they could be opened up and clamped around the existing cables without disconnection. The installer also needed to supply power from each phase to the enclosure. While this would typically need to be done for each meter, our meter engineers looped the supply from meter to meter, saving the installer time.
The Acrel ADL400CT meters supplied come complete with a Modbus output, allowing us to daisy chain the outputs and feed them into the Carlo Gavazzi UWP. The UWP data logger allows inputs from up to 128 meters and comes complete with a network connection. The installer simply needed to plug in a network cable on site and the end user can navigate to an IP address on any internet enabled device to view both live and historical readings.
