Environmental Policy

Mission Statement

Stephen P Wales Ltd recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and will continually improve our environmental performance. 

Responsibility

Alex Wales (MD) is responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Policy Aims

We endeavour to: 

  • Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Continually monitor and improve environmental performance to minimise our impact on the World.
  • Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.
  • Increase employee awareness and training.

Culture

  • Involve staff in the implementation of this policy, for greater commitment and improved performance.
  • Update this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders.
  • Provide staff with relevant environmental training.

Energy and Water

  • Report all consumption periodically and implement a strategy to reduce usage.
  • Measure electrical consumption on each outgoing way of our distribution board.
  • Reduce energy use on lighting through automation.
  • Reduce energy consumption on heating through automation.
  • Monitor and reduce water consumption.

Consumables

  • Eliminate the use of consumables where practicable.
  • Reduce the amount of office and workshop consumables used.
  • Reuse cardboard and paper as packing material where suitable.
  • Recycle all plastics, metals and cardboards that cannot be reused.
  • Buy recycled and recyclable products.

Packaging

  • Packaging makes up a large proportion of S P Wales’ waste stream.
  • Where possible S P Wales reuse packaging from incoming suppliers:
    • Re-use boxes received from suppliers where their integrity is not compromised.
    • Re-use packing from suppliers if it is a suitable alternative to void fill.
    • Use shredded office and workshop waste as packing material.
  • All new cardboard boxes are made from recycled material.
  • Use paper packing tape which is fully recyclable.
  • Use recycled foam void fill which is also recyclable.
  • Use recyclable foam pillows if additional void fill is required.

Office Waste

  • Favour environmentally friendly products.
  • Only print where necessary.
  • Recycle all ink cartridges, batteries, WEEE materials.
  • We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose of waste.

Workshop Waste

  • All chemical use to be minimised and to be disposed of according to the recommended route.
  • Waste from processing is to be Eliminated, Reduced, Reused and Recycled where possible.
  • All Wooden waste from cutting activities is to be disposed of to a recyclable route.

Transportation

  • Reduce the need to travel, restricting to necessary trips only.
  • Use public transport for business trips where possible.
  • Promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Cleaning materials used will be as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • Materials used will be as environmentally friendly as possible.

Monitoring and Improvement

  • Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Continually improve and monitor environmental performance.
  • Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts.
  • Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.
  • Increase employee awareness through training.
